Trang An Traditional River Festival & Sacred Water Procession
Schedule: 25 Tháng 4 – 27 Tháng 4, 2026 (Giữa tháng 3 Âm lịch) | Location: Vietnam
The Trang An River Festival, celebrating the revered guardian deity Saint Quy Minh Dai Vuong, is a spellbinding cultural spectacle held annually on the 18th day of the third lunar month in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Trang An landscape in Ninh Binh. The festival commemorates General Quy Minh, a legendary protector under the Hung Kings who defended the southern defiles of Hoa Lu Citadel and blessed the delta with peaceful rains and bountiful crops. The most awe-inspiring highlight is the monumental Sacred Water Procession along the Sao Khe River, featuring a flotilla of over 1,000 traditional wooden sampans stretching for kilometers across the winding emerald waterways. Adorned with fluttering five-color ceremonial flags and accompanied by thunderous bronze drums and gongs, the flotilla carries ritual masters to fetch sacred river water from an pristine mountain spring near Suoi Tien Temple to consecrate the altars. Along the 5-kilometer aquatic procession route threading through subterranean water caves and sheer karst canyons, travelers encounter authentic folk performance stations perched directly on floating bamboo rafts: melodious Quan Ho duets, contemplative Ca Tru poetry singing, resonant Cheo operatic ballads, and classical lithophone music echoing off ancient limestone walls.
