Mua Cave & Lying Dragon Peak (Hang Mua)
Category: Panoramic Viewpoint & Karst Peak | Location: Khe Dau Ha, Ninh Xuan, Hoa Lu, Ninh Binh
Hang Mua (Mua Cave) and the iconic summit of Ngoa Long (Lying Dragon) Peak are widely hailed as the "Mini Great Wall of Vietnam", located within the heart of the Trang An karst landscape in Hoa Lu. Ancient folklore recounts that Emperor Tran Thai Tong frequently visited this cave sanctuary to watch court maidens perform graceful traditional dances, giving the cavern its evocative name ("Dancing Cave"). Conquering the mountain requires an exhilarating climb up nearly 500 zig-zagging stone steps carved directly into the jagged limestone cliff face. Crowning the peak is a magnificent, sprawling stone dragon statue (Ngoa Long) that guards the precipitous ridgeline, alongside an elegant Buddhist tower gazing out across boundless skies. The summit reveals the most breathtaking 360-degree panoramic vista in all of Northern Vietnam: the winding Ngo Dong River shimmering below as tiny sampans drift past, lush golden-green rice paddies stretching into the distance, and endless layers of dramatic karst mountains receding toward the horizon. It remains the ultimate sunrise and sunset photography viewpoint in Ninh Binh.
